Healthy Cooking Can Be Fun if You Plan Ahead!

Who said eating green beans has to be terrible? We assume kids hate eating greens. It can be a downright battle some days to get them to try something new or eat anything that is green. So how do we convince them to try something new? By making it fun!

Depending on your preferred eating style – paleo, slow-carb, atkins, etc. – you can find thousands of websites dedicated to helping you and your family eat healthy. You can find fun meals to cook that taste delicious.

If your son is a picky eater, try one of the following recipes from “DUDE Food” and remind him it’ll turn him into a big strong man one day! The site has recipes for healthy taco shrimps, pumpkin turkey chili, and turkey & broccoli lasagna.

Some website even suggest ways to position the food on a plate to make it appealing to even the pickiest of eaters!

Plan Ahead!

A big key to eating healthy and cooking healthy is to plan ahead! The easiest time to grab something unhealthy is when you’re rushed and stressed. We search through cabinets for anything to eat and usually end up with a Pop-Tart or go on a McDonald’s run.

The smart plan is to spend a day – Saturday or Sunday if you work full-time – and cook your entire week’s worth of meals. Each meal will then go into the refrigerator in its own Tupperware container. Now, whenever you are hungry, you can grab a container and heat it up. The meal is ready to go!

Why do I need to cook?

Preparing your food at home is the best and easiest way to eat healthy! Grabbing takeout or eating out can seem easier in the moment, but it’s heavier on the wallet and the waistline! Cooking dinner allows us three very important opportunities:

  • Family time to sit together and enjoy each other’s company
  • Set an example about the importance of healthy eating for our children
  • Establish healthy eating habits for kids from a young age

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be hard. It can be fun and an enjoyable adventure. Thanks to the Internet, you’re never short of options for new things to try! All it takes to find a new recipe is about ten good minutes and Pinterest. They say  diamonds are a girl’s best friend. These days, I think diamonds have been replaced by Pinterest J.
